Dr. janja Lalich, Keynote Presentation, DeCult Conference 2024, Christchurch, New Zealand

Coercive control in spiritual groups, churches and self-help organisations is a human rights and mental health issue. Over 50,000 people in Aotearoa New Zealand are former or current members of cults, many with lasting trauma.

Decult is committed to increasing awareness, reducing stigma and securing tangible support for those impacted. As a volunteer-run organisation, we’re building networks and creating resources to educate those who want to minimise cultic harm. Our first event, the Decult 2024 conference, was a sold-out success.
